Personality & Traits

General Overview

Aurangzeb is detail and task oriented. Occasionally prone to sarcasm and cynicism, he is an idealist with strong moral convictions about right and wrong, good and evil, and remains courageous about them. Among these ideals are the sanctity of life, galactic peace, universal education, elimination of poverty and the other unifying principles of the Federation. His behavior and mannerisms are affable yet can be socially conservative. He places a high premium on good manners and does his best to avoid confrontation. Surprising to many, he has an inherent need for recognition of his efforts and accomplishments and would like to be well-liked amongst his peers.

Comfortably extroverted, Aurangzeb is outgoing, personable, friendly and approachable, subconsciously harnessing an innate ability to subdue any form of awkward conservatism through simple interaction, allowing for his effortless integration into a wide-variety of different social networks; when he meets new people, they will more than likely become fast friends. An exceptionally patient and understanding man, Aurangzeb strives to be categorically diplomatic and urbane, both in speech and action, preferring first and foremost to listen. He doesn't often lose his temper, choosing rather to refocus such energies into quickly assessing and categorically breaking down a situation. Aurangzeb is far from selfish, while jealousy and possessiveness don't define him; he remains idealistic and free-spirited with a disarming sense of humor. He is generally well-liked and received regardless of the social circumstances and/or atmosphere.

Loyal to a fault, Aurangzeb will invest the entirety of mind, body and soul into the care of his closest friends and family at the cost of his own physical and emotional well-being. It's easy for one to take advantage of his unflinching kindness and adoration, leaving him vulnerable and susceptible to becoming emotionally compromised. Although free-spirited, Aurangzeb can be quick to shut others out when he perceives that a line has been crossed and will hold a grudge for some time. Sometimes Aurangzeb doesn't think before speaking, his playfully sarcastic approach can often times be misinterpreted as condescension or a superiority complex. He can be quick to apologize, even when there is nothing to apologize for.

Aurangzeb has a keen appreciation for the arts, but prefers photography above all other media, and considers himself to be an amateur photographer. He is an avid reader and writer, quite often utilizing a number of different mediums and resources to satisfy a variable number of literary interests. He is also honing a developing appreciation for music, which is slightly more limited, confined mostly to music from Earth. An avid outdoorsman, Aurangzeb enjoys a number of recreational activities to include, but not limited to, four wheeling, snowmobiling, skiing (downhill and cross country), snowshoeing, camping (all seasons), backpacking, fly-fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking. Aurangzeb generally enjoys games of chance and forms of recreation requiring an above-average amount of physical exertion (e.g.: water polo, field hockey and football.); he has been known to engage in these activities on a purely social level yet enjoys those of solitude, as well. He is an avid player of cribbage and solitaire and he participates in a daily exercise program to stay in good physical condition. Aurangzeb enjoys socializing with his close friends and drinks during social or special occasions.

Personal History Born in Agra India to parents Rajeesh and Sandip, Aurangzeb was the second child born to the couple.

Wanting for absolutely nothing, Aurangzeb received the customary upbringing of any child born to well-established and reputable parents. His father was a world renowned professor of linguistic anthropology, tenured at the University of Delhi and his mother was a leading member of parliament until a promotion to India's diplomatic attaché to the world government. Although the family took up permanent residence in Agra where Aurangzeb and Dara spent most of their childhood, they did share much of their time between New Delhi, where Rajeesh took seasonal occupancy during the academic year and Paris, where Sandip stayed while government was in session.

A relatively quiet and private child, Aurangzeb exhibited qualities and characteristics contrary to that of his older brother, Dara, whom remained more outgoing and personable. Unlike his older brother, Aurangzeb received formal tutelage within house instead of attending a public primary school. Although a significant age gap remained between the two, Aurangzeb and Dara did share a brotherly relationship, albeit very distant at times.

His tutor's often noted, although soft-spoken and withdrawn, that Aurangzeb was afflicted by an unequivocally broadening intelligence. Propelled through curiosity and intrigue, Aurangzeb immediately showed an unparalleled genius several years beyond his expected threshold of reasoning and understanding.

Although intellectually sophisticated, Rajeesh and Sandip ensured that their child received a very rounded education, exploring all facets from which only seemed to fuel Aurangzeb's need for knowledge. His parents ensured that Aurangzeb was introduced to the performing and visual arts and remained active through different sports and various outdoor activities. The eventual outcome was an exceptionally bright, articulate and cultured boy.

At the age of sixteen, Dara left home to attend Starfleet Academy's preparatory school in Paris. Although Aurangzeb and Dara weren't particularly close, his older brother's absence deeply affected Aurangzeb and it was through this absence that the two formed a more intimate bond.

Shortly after turning fourteen, Aurangzeb began to explore his sexuality, which he had been questioning for several years. Not identifying with a specific attraction to members of the opposite sex, Aurangzeb found himself exploring intimacy with peers of the same sex. Like his education, he treated each experience as if it were an opportunity to explore the unknown. Although enjoyable, he never fully invested himself, preferring to err on the side of scientific curiosity and treat each experience as if it were nothing more than an experiment to test the thresholds of sexual boundaries. Later in life, he would learn how sexually stunted he'd become due to this approach.

At the age of seventeen, Aurangzeb completed his formal education with scholastic opportunities awaiting and beckoning at many different prestigious secondary education institutions throughout the world. However, Aurangzeb resisted.

Aurangzeb had closely followed Dara's career ever since the elder child had started his education at Starfleet Academy. Arangzeb and Dara often communicated with each other, either through written correspondence or visual communication, on a regular basis. Vehemently intrigued by his older brother's adventures of exploring the unknown and making fantastical discovery's in far off galaxy's, Aurangzeb determined that the only way to satisfy his own rampant curiosity, was to join Starfleet.

Albeit impatient, Aurangzeb desired immediate satisfaction and enlisted rather than applying for admittance to Starfleet Academy.
Starfleet History Aurangzeb applied for enlistment at the Starfleet Recruitment Center in New Delhi. Showcasing an exceptionally high acuity, recruiters initially believed Aurangzeb's vast expertise could better be applied through admission to Starfleet Academy; however, at the conclusion of the personality examination, it was discovered that Aurangzeb lacked any definitive leadership qualities that would make him an ideal officer candidate. Having passed all oral, written and physical examinations with a cumulative score of 97.8%, Aurangzeb was commissioned the enlisted rank of Crewman Recruit and ordered to Starfleet Academy in San Francisco to complete basic training requirements.

Recruit training, more commonly known as basic training and colloquially called boot camp, was the initial indoctrination and instruction given to new Starfleet enlisted personnel. Although future officer's underwent a program very similar, their instruction was completed at Starfleet Academy while those whom enlisted were dispatched to training camps throughout Earth. Aurangzeb was assigned to Camp Pike, which was the primary training location for high aptitude enlisted personnel.

Although not intellectually stimulating, Aurangzeb enjoyed basic training for its prosaic approach. Finding solace in its regimented structure, Aurangzeb thrived in the environments' strict adherence to order and organization while enjoying the intense physical demands and 'back to basics' mentality.

Unlike many of his peers, Aurangzeb's personality seemed hardly affected by the environmental stimuli of basic training. Seamlessly acclimating and then adapting to the teaching style, Aurangzeb defined himself amongst the ranks, not necessarily as a leader, but as an intuitive contributor whom relied on the training and a considerable amount of ingenuity.

Testing high in all brackets, Aurangzeb effortlessly excelled through each level of training. At the conclusion of basic training, Aurangzeb graduated third in a class of forty and received a promotion to Crewman Apprentice. His parents had been present at the advancement ceremonies and even Dara had been able to take leave from the Potempkin to proudly watch his brother earn a Starfleet enlistment commission.

A brief leave allowed for the family to reconnect, an aspect of training that strictly prohibited any form of communication during recruit training. Although this leave was short, it provided an invaluable opportunity to visit one final time before Dara returned to the Potempkin and Aurangzeb departed for additional training.

At the conclusion of leave, Aurangzeb and nine other apprentices were transported to the campus of Starfleet Headquarters and assigned to Starfleet Command's professional administrative training program.

Unlike recruit training, the administrative training program was considerably different. Although regularly tested physically, more emphasis was placed on education and training, the application of learning. The day's were long, with the first six to eight hours committed to classroom instruction, while the remaining four to six hours were used to test this knowledge through application. When an apprentice wasn't in the classroom or on duty, they were typically nose deep in their coursework material or pulling practice sessions in the laboratories or holodecks.

Once again, Aurangzeb thrived; he enjoyed the fast paced complexities of the program itself, which were beyond challenging. Although, unlike his peers, he had a more difficult time in effectively communicating and forming any kind of bond or friendship with the others. In fact, his fellow apprentices had nicknamed him 'mouse' for his overtly quiet disposition. Yet, many were magnetized to him after witnessing his intellectual prowess in practical application. And, although quiet, there were those that identified almost immediately with his compassion and kindness.

After six months of rigorous and constant training that required the complete devotion from the apprentices, they graduated with specialties in their respective field of study. Aurangzeb proceeded through the advancement ceremonies with high achievements, accolades and a position on the academic honor roll including two letters of recommendation and one letter of commendation.
