A New Path

Posted on Thu Mar 2, 2017 @ 6:46pm by Captain Garridan Rismore & Lieutenant Tehja Oldan & Lieutenant JG Ren Kannu

Mission: The Fruit Of Tantalus
Location: Deck 1 - Bridge, Deck 12 - Phaser Range
Timeline: 1230 Hours

Lieutenant Ren Kannu enjoyed some quiet time in Jericho's phaser range. He liked to keep his eye sharp but also enjoyed the time to think.

The ship was heading for Celestia to pick up Jericho's CMO, and the Bajoran was due back at his post soon but being stranded in this protouniverse or whatever it was called left him feeling isolated.

He finished another game, twenty-five hits, three misses. Not bad he thought to himself. He was just about to order another game from the computer when he heard the phaser range's door open.

Opting to spend her lunch break doing something useful rather than simply sit and eat, Tehja entered the phaser range with a hand phaser in one hand and a ham sandwich in the other. "Oh hey. I thought I'd be the only one here." she said through a mouthful of food as she spotted Ren.

"Sorry, ma'am. I didn't see that anyone was booked in to use the range." Ren said holstering his phaser. "Just fancied keep my eye sharp and letting off a little steam."

"Nothing wrong with that." Tehja replied, "And please, don't stop, carry on and don't let me bother you." she smiled as she moved a little further down the range and set her phaser down and polished off her sandwich.

Kannu nodded with a smile as he took his phaser out again. "Computer, reset range and begin at previous level."

With a beep from the computer the range reset and different colour balls appeared and began moving around the range. Ren took aim and began firing his phaser at the blue balls. A few minutes later and the round was over with another beep, before Ren score came up. Twenty four hits, six misses.

"Not bad." Tehja commented. She'd been watching whilst she ate and was impressed with what she saw. "Your wrist dips a little though just as you fire, if you could work on that, you'd miss less."

"Thanks, I'll try and bear that in mind." Ren said with a smile. "Actually, I'm glad I've bumped into you. I was wondering if I could do some extra shifts in security. Being a flyboy is fine but I wouldn't mind stretching my wings a little, that is, if you could use me?"

"I can always use more people." Tehja nodded, "I'll arrange for you to attend our next training session." she added, "It'll give me a chance to see what you're made of."

"Thank you, ma'am." Ren said with a smile. "Shall I inform the Captain as well?"

"Sure, unless you'd prefer me to?" Tehja offered as she picked up her weapon.

"It's fine. I need to get back to the bridge now anyway. I'll inform him when I get up there." Ren said with a smile.

"Okay." she nodded, "I'll send you the training schedule as soon as I've finished my session here."

"Thank you, ma'am." Ren said before he realized he sounded like a parrot. "Enjoy your session." He said as he placed the phaser back in its charging port and made his way back up to the bridge.

Once on the bridge, he made his way to his station and relieved the Ensign who had been covering his break. Once he reacquainted himself with Jericho's course, speed and status, he turned to the Captain. "Captain Rismore?"

Garridan looked up from the PADD he'd been reading at his helmsman. "Lieutenant. Have a nice lunch?" he asked the Bajoran.

"I did, thank you, sir." Ren said with a smile. "I bumped into Lieutenant Oldan and asked if I could join her security detail as and when I'm needed. The Lieutenant was happy to use me but I just wanted to run it past you too, sir?"

"Any particular reason that you want the additional duties?" Garridan asked him.

"To be honest, sir, we're out here in the unknown, anything could happen. I just want to be able to help out as best as I can." Ren replied with a smile.

That made more than enough sense. "Alright then. When Commander Stross, the Lieutenant and I go through the duty rosters, we'll add you to the security rotation."

"Thank you, sir." Ren said with a smile and nod. The Bajoran was pleased he'd been given the 'ok' from the Captain. He looked forward to taking up his new responsibilities aboard Jericho.
