From One Universe To Another, Part One

Posted on Mon Mar 6, 2017 @ 5:52pm by Captain Garridan Rismore & Lieutenant JG Dralex & Ensign Genevieve Devaux & Lieutenant Commander David Stross Jr. & Lieutenant Tehja Oldan & Lieutenant JG Ren Kannu

Mission: The Fruit Of Tantalus
Location: Deck 1 - Bridge, Deck 6 - Transporter Room 1, U.S.S. Pizzaro (Runabout)
Timeline: MD2 - 1100 Hours

Ren sat in the pilots seat of the runabout Pizzaro. He had completed his final pre-launch checks and was awaiting final clearance to depart. "Pizzaro to Bridge, permission to disembark."

"Permission granted Lieutenant," the Captain replied over the comm.

"Thank you, sir." Ren replied before closing the comm. He then engaged thrusters which gently pushed him off Jericho's deck before easing the runabout through the atmospheric shield and into open space.

Beside the Bajoran in the co-pilot's seat was the science officer responsible for coming up with the idea of the Space Bridge; Ensign Genevieve Devaux. She checked the readings on her console before speaking up to Ren. "We'll have to position the runabout four hundred meters away from the ship this time. The interference we've experienced during our previous attempts seems to come from the energy radiated from the Jericho's engines."

Ren nodded, "Makes sense." He said as he guided the runabout out to four hundred meters. "We're four hundred meters out and waiting to deploy the Space Bridge."

"Doing so now," the Ensign told him. Gen ran her hands over the controls which prompted the release of the device into open space. The Bridge's onboard thrusters stabilized it. "The Space Bridge is in position," she said. "I'm beginning the power up sequence."

"Power levels looking stable." Ren said looking at the Space Bridge readout before turning to his own console. "We are ready to make the connection."

As they were ready to proceed, Gen opened a comm channel to the ship. "Pizzaro to Jericho, the Space Bridge is online."

"Understood," the Captain acknowledged. "Return to the ship. We'll send you back out there once transport operations are complete."

"Aye, sir." Ren said with a nod, before piloting the shuttle back to Jericho.

Once the Pizzaro had returned, Garridan rose from his seat and spoke aloud, never taking his eyes off from the forward viewscreen. "Lieutenant Oldan, establish a communications link with the Space Bridge. Set coordinates for Federation listening post G11LN in the Gamma Quadrant."

"Establishing link now Sir." Tehja confirmed as she made the connection. A few moments later, she added "Success Sir. The link is stable and active." she smiled over at Rismore.

"Open a hailing frequency to the Abeona," he then requested.

"Hailing them now Sir." the Angosian replied, tapping a few buttons "Go ahead." she confirmed.

"This is Captain Garridan Rismore of the U.S.S. Jericho. Please respond," he said.

The voice that answered was clear and crisp, as was the image of the Andorian woman on the viewscreen. "This is Captain Udiel of the U.S.S. Abeona. A pleasure to make your acquaintance at last Captain. You and your crew have been much talked about in the Gamma Quadrant over the last three months."

"Good things I hope?" Garridan wondered with a smile.

"Mostly," the Andorian replied bluntly. "We have your supplies and new personnel. From your last correspondence, you made mention of transporting some individuals to be returned home?"

"That's correct," the Elaysian replied. "My original first officer, Lieutenant Commander Yvonne Scott, suffered an injury here. The Lumenites have been unable to help her, perhaps because our physiology is so different. After conferring with my Chief Medical Officer, I believe that it'll be better for her to be under the care of the physicians at Starfleet Medical."

Udiel nodded. "I understand Captain. We'll give her the best of care until we return to DS9."

"Thank you," Garridan said. "If you don't mind, we have quite a few things to transport. I think that we should get started right away."

"Agreed," the Andorian concurred.

Garridan tapped his combadge. "Bridge to transporter room one, link your controls to the Abeona and proceed with the transport as we planned." The Elaysian just hoped that nothing would go wrong. It didn't matter so much with the supplies, even though they were in dire need of them. It was the people he was worried about.

"Aye Sir. Linking with the Abeona." David said running his hands over the transporter controls. "Link established starting transport."

Columns of light appeared on the transporter platform accompanied by the familiar chime-like sounds of a transporter in operation. The columns of light solidified into the crates that held much needed supplies from home. The first transport of an object between two universes had been completed. David nodded to two ensigns who started to remove the crates from the transporter. "Supply transport completed. We are ready to transport personnel." He said.

"Start with Lieutenant Commander Scott," Garridan suggested over the comm. "Get her back into our universe. Then we'll move on to the rest."

"Yes sir." David said. He then pressed a button on the transporter console. "We are ready for the Commander bring her in."

Commander Scott was in a stasis unit that was pushed in by a nurse from sickbay who positioned the stasis unit on the transporter pad. When the nurse had stepped off the platform, David activated the transporter and the Commander's stasis unit disappeared into sparking lights. A few minutes later a light flashed on the console.

"Signal from the Abeona... they have the Commander. The transport was successful." David said into the open comm channel to the bridge.

Garridan breathed a sigh of relief. Not only was he pleased that the transport was a success, but it was also nice to know that Yvonne would get the time and care she needed in order to get better. "Acknowledged," the Captain finally replied to Stross.

"My Chief Medical Officer confirms that Commander Scott has arrived unscathed," Udiel informed him.

"Good. I hate just handing her off like this, but it's for the best," the Elaysian said. "Have the transferring personnel ready to come aboard. We'll bring them over shortly."

"They've been informed, Captain, and we stand ready for your signal," the Andorian said.

Everything was going well thus far. Garridan had to commend his crew for the work they'd done in such a short time span to augment the Space Bridge. Now it was all coming to a head. In a matter of minutes, their new crew will have traveled from one universe to another. As far as the Captain knew, it was the first time that any Starfleet vessel had accomplished such a feat. It was just another reason why Garridan was so proud of his people. They were pushing the scientific barriers at every turn. As a scientist himself, it was the kind of thing you lived for.
